Where It All Begun

Growing Up and Learning about Jesus

Where It All Begun

Where it all began – I have always grown up knowing that God existed. When I say God, I mean the God of the Holy Bible.

Being born in the island of Jamaica, going to Sunday school/church went without saying even if our parents did not attend, they ensured that their children attended Sunday school. Going through the school system, I attended mainly Catholic schools and as part of the curriculum, going to mass and having morning devotion was part of school life. Therefore for me, it went without saying that God existed.

Back when I was grown up in Jamaica, it was known to be a very religious country and one that was God fearing and showed love to our Heavenly Father.  As young as 5 years of age, we have been thought to have reverence for the Lord and also the Lord’s prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed by thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.  Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom the power and the glory for ever and ever, amen (Matthew 6: 9-13).

Another one that I was exposed to at an early age is:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he leadeth me beside the still waters; he restoreth my soul, he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Even at my age, I can still remember these prayers and many a time they have kept me going.

My question to you guys is : When and where did you realised that we have a Heavenly Father?
